OH I DO LIKE TO BE BESIDE THE SEASIDE
(ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS HOT AND SUNNY)
..... As we only spent one day and night in Scarborough i wasn't going to do a write up of the first BSRA national of 2007 but as i was threatened by Dawns friend, Julie (as seen with me in picture scar07-100), who told me i had to do one as she enjoyed reading them and if i didn't i would be in trouble next time she saw me, so here goes.
.....Due to both myself and Dawn having to work both Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday we decided to do just the one day in Scarborough and drive back after the do. As i used to drive in the night hours, driving home at 2am didn't deter me one bit. We arrived just after 10am and went straight to the Spa for the trade stalls. We immediately bumped into the rest of the Derby crowd, Rob, Nigel and Jim to name a few. We then went inside and set about saying our hellos to our friends, some we hadn't seen since Bridlington. There was no custom show on the Saturday as it was being judged during the ride out organised by the Yorkshire Scooter Alliance on the Sunday but there was scooters as far as the eye could see, stretching from the Spa all the way up along the seafront. After a few hours myself and Dawn ambled along the seafront, enjoying the warm sunshine and made our way up into town and onto Wetherspoons. Inside we were instantly accosted by the ii lot, Dunny trying to argue with me that Leicester City should have beaten Derby the day before but i was having none of it and we agreed to disagree. The Olympics Craig & Jo also joined us for a few beers. When they all left we went upstairs and joined the Lincoln SC gang and the slave master and his mistress, aka Dave Porter and Fi. We settled in for the afternoon watching the football scores coming in on the telly and catching up on missed gossip. I really struggled to stay awake and really wished we had a B&B so i could go and have a power nap. We decided to go and have a walk about town to stay awake and eventually ended up in Yates where we bumped into Ferdie, Tracie, Wol and Lotte. I apologise to the gal from Stockport Crusaders who was with them as i can't remember her name. On way back up to Wetherspoons we came across a Busker who was sat playing his guitar. Wol, unable to forget his time in Spunge, went over, borrowed his guitar and the two of them did an impromptu duet of Pinball Wizard. Whilst in Wetherspoons i got a call asking me to work at the Spa so myself and Dawn set of back down there. I unfortunately ended up in the one place we all hate doing, as in 'the soul room'. I had done well last year, managing to avoid it for most of the year so at least i've got my stint in there out of the way for a while. I didn't see the band Newtown Kings but from what i heard from several people i didn't miss much. Around 1:45am i got the nod to get off so we said our goodbyes and set of for home on the near deserted roads arriving home around 4am and went straight to bed. I had planned on doing the same for Margate but after almost falling asleep in the pub we might just sleep over Saturday night.
..... Well, that was 2007 Nationals of to a fantastic start. If we have the same weather for the rest of the summer as is forecasted, we will be in for a great year. Is it just me or does it get better every year. So roll on Margate, a place i've never visited, missing all the fun in the late 80's, thankfully.
SAFE SCOOTERING
