Llandudno. V.F.M.* Pre-season Rally, 24th-26th March 2006

Having waved goodbye to my wife Dawn, i made good time and was soon passing the Croeso i Llandudno road signs and set about finding my Digs for the weekend. Johnny Bolland had assured me they were near the Conference Centre but soon discovered they were on the opposite side of town, still they were close to the main pubs so it wasn't all bad, although my room was on the top floor again.

I dumped my gear in my room then i made for the Wetherspoons up the road. Inside i found a couple of friends, Bob & Donna with a friend of theirs and where soon joined by J B, Johns Mate Dave and Jo. Maybe the bar staff could detect my Welsh ancestry but i got served straight away whilst others waited ages to get their beer. The pub itself was an old cinema and was very well set out, much better than some other pubs we use. There was even some of the original seating left upstairs. After a while we moved across the road to the Carlton where i bumped into my old club, the Burton Brewers. Whilst chatting to them they told me about their little mishap whilst refuelling. Apparently Mark Evison, who owns one of the Armando scooters featured in Scootering recently had mistakenly put diesel in by mistake, so they had to drain it all out.

Having been settled in the Carlton all afternoon it was now time to make our way down the coast to the Conference Centre for the night do. Tonights band was the Uplifters who played a good set of Ska classics. I spent the rest of the night catching up with old friends that i hadn't seen over the winter months.

After breakfast i went back to bed for a couple of hours then made my way back to the Conference Centre for the trade stalls and custom show, where i met up with the Macclesfield Kroozers lot. After a wander around the stalls i went outside to take a few photos of the few scooters there was in the custom show. One thing i did notice whilst outside was that Mr Fosters car had got a parking ticket on it and had to stop myself from smiling when i informed him of its presence. I hooked up with the Kroozers again as we made our way back into town to the Carlton where we spent the rest of the afternoon until it was time to go and get something to eat.

Back in the Conference Centre for the Saturday night do i was paired up with Lee from Lincoln and we were given the job of watching over the rear of the main room. I, at one stage had to tell the Brewers to behave as they were getting a bit carried away building a tower out of empty beakers. Tongue in cheek, i threatened to throw them all out if they didn't calm down and was instantly greeted by lots of middle fingers.  Tonights band were a group of youngsters from Scotland called Scarlet Blue. They were pretty good but as they were mainly a mod band they weren't my cup of tea. We had been told by the police that kicking out time was to be 1am because of the clocks going forward but Steve F had somehow managed to persuade them to allow us to stay open until 2am instead.

For the first rally of the season the attendance on the Saturday had been quite good and i think Llandudno is a good resort for a rally. Maybe we can return again soon, hopefully when its warmer, but it was good to be back on a rally again after an absence of 4 months. It was also good to be on a rally in my own country again. So after a break of 4 months i've got just 5 days to go before my next one. Roll on Modrapheniacs.

RIDE SAFELY
