EMSA Ride Out To Matlock.....17th September 2006

East Midlands Scooter Alliance

Ride Out To Matlock

.....This newly formed Alliance had already held a couple of ride outs around the East Midlands, but this was expected to be the biggest one to date. Matlock and Matlock Bath is a picturesque town in north Derbyshire on the banks of the river Derwent which has long been a mecca for bikers on a Sunday. As a rule i never bother with ride outs as i look at them as clutch burners, but we decided at the last minute to attend. We arrived at the meeting point, The Hurt Arms in Ambergate, at 9:30 to find the car park filling up very quickly. Some had camped out at the Hurt Arms the previous night and by all accounts had had a good night despite the Manager/Owner of the pub doing his best to put a dampner on the proceedings. The organisers had hoped to attract around 200 scooters but as we set off just after 10am there must have been around 400 scooters which must have looked very impressive to those we past on the way. The few bikes we past in a lay-by must have wondered what was going on. We were soon in Matlock Bath and like most people parked up on the big pavement on the right only to be told by the police that anyone parking there would get a parking ticket. Having found a proper parking spot we mooched around for a while, watching the bikers looking extremely pee'd off at all these scooters that had invaded their turf. We had a quick beer in a pub that had originally put a sign up saying "Mods welcome". This was very quickly changed to "scooterists welcome". We then moved on to Matlock its self where The Old English Hotel had laid on a bit of a do for us so everyone was now gathering there. I was told there was to be music and a bit of food laid on but by the time we left, neither had Surfaced. I'm sure the organisers were more than happy with the days events, with the sun shining most of the day and the massive turnout. I might just do another ride out next year, we will have to see
