It had seem like ages since our last rally at the Isle of Wight but finally the 29th October arrived and we were off to Bridlington for the last National rally off this year. I got back from South Wales around 13:30 and collected Dawn & Sophie about 14:00. we dropped off Sophie at Dawns mums house and set off for the M1. Actually the M1 wasn't as bad as it usually is on a Friday afternoon and we were soon clear of it onto the M18, M62 and A614 arriving in Bridlington just after 5pm. After being fussy at our b&b and taking the 3rd choice room we were offered, both Dawn & myself were showered, changed and ready to go out. I had phoned Mick from the ii on a couple of occasions to see where they all were but by the time we were out most of the ii were going back to their digs to have a short kip and get ready for the night time, so Dawn & myself went into Wetherspoons. We bumped into Nick, Ruth, Richard & Kerry from the Brewers as we walked down to Wetherspoons as well as V.F.M.s Johnny Bolland and Fordy. Once inside the pub we met Itals Macca and his misses Fran and went upstairs to join Donna & Bob who were with Andy & Nicky Bayes. It was good to see them both as Nicky has been unwell for some time but she looked really good this weekend and is well on her way to a full recovery.
I left Dawn with our friends at 8pm and reported into the Leisure Club which was the venue for tonights entertainment. The night was spent saying our hellos to all our friends and partying. The only ii we saw inside tonight was Brady and her friend and Taxi and her new fella, infact Taxi dragged Dawn off for a dance and to introduce her to her new fella. Dawn later got a bit upset as everyone kept asking her how she was after her accident and although everyone meant well, it brought it all back for her and it brought a few tears. The band, Performance, came on to play to a packed dance floor. They were quite good and played a good mix of music. The Leisure Centre was heaving this year continuing the trend of all rallies being better attended this year.
About 1am i took Dawn back up to our B&B as she had had enough and then returned to the Leisure centre to finish off my shift. When i got back to our B&B there was no sign of Dawn. I looked all over the B&B and went outside to look for her. As i was just going outside she strolled in as if nothing was the matter. She had got hungry and gone for some food.
The next morning we awoke and went for breakfast at 9:30am only to find breakfast was served between 8:30 & 9am, but the landlady would see what they had left. After chilling for an hour we set off for the Spa where the custom show and trade stalls were. When we got there i was amazed to see how long the queue was so we went into the Southcliffe hotel opposite where the Blues were all staying. We found Mr & Mrs 1 shirt in there as well as several Blues members who were already up. We spent about an hour in there then went over to the Spa. The queue was still long but as i was attending the B.S.R.A meeting as a representative of the Brewers, we went round the back and entered through a back door. Inside we bumped into Mick, OAJJ, Boo Boo, Teresa, Jimmy Jazz and Dean & Ann from the ii. We had a look around and took some photos of the custom show which it has to be said was an excellent turn out and had some very good displays. I was particularly impressed by the Hull & District display but there was a lot of new entrants about as well. Kev Walsh announced that the B.S.R.A was about to start so Dawn went off with the ii as i went to the meeting to discuss next years agenda.
After the meeting i set off to find Dawn and found her with Andy Delee from the Brewers. We had a couple in the Southcliffe and went for something to eat. We settled for a carvery restaurant by the harbour but soon wished we hadn't. The food was terrible. The meat was under cooked, the mashed potato was really lumpy, the roast potatoes were rock hard and the veg was hard too. I suppose we should have known something was wrong when we found the carpet stuck to your shoes as we walked along it. We had eaten in this restaurant last year and were very happy with it but we won't be eating in there next year.
We retired back to our B&B for an hours kip before we went out for the night, but we over slept and it was 9:30pm before we went out. We started off at the Southcliffe as we had promised the Blues we would come and party with them. We left after about an hour as it was too hot in there and most of the blues we had promised to were not there, properly sleeping off the afternoon session, so we went across the road to the Spa, and was collared by the ii BigN on the way. We soon found the ii lot which tonight consisted off Mick, Oajj, Boo Boo,T, Taxi & her fella, MrBean & Angelica, Steve & Jackie and on occasions we were joined by Brady, and continued to get drunk and party. The band tonight were Two Tonic who i can't remember seeing before but was very impressed by them. They were very good and seemed to have loads of energy and went on for some time. I bumped into several Brewers during the night but never seemed to be able to find Ian, the club chairman, who was in there somewhere.
Dawn & myself left about 1:30am so we could get some food and walked back with the 2 Shady brothers, Tesco and his misses. We got to the food shops only to find the pizza shop and the kebab shop had closed early and the only thing open was the chippy. I gave the food a miss and Dawn had a burger which she munched as we walked back to our B&B.
With the clocks going back an hour the extra hours sleep had helped but we still awoke next morning a bit groggy. We wandered down for breakfast on time this time and after we had eaten we checked out and left for home. Both Dawn and myself had really enjoyed our weekend made all the better by good company. The warm dry weather had been a welcome change as well, as it usually is wet and windy for the Brid weekend. So now we await for the Cala Gran weekend in 3 weeks time for the last rally of the year, and what a year it has been.
safe scootering
