B.S.R.A. No8. Bridlington National Scooter Rally. 28th-30th October 2005

LEAVE THE SCUM AT HOME

....Both myself and Dawn again had the small matter of work to get out of the way before we could set of for Bridlington, but because i had switched my run, we were on our way just after 3pm. Despite the usual Friday afternoon hold ups on the M1 we made good time and arrived outside our digs for the weekend about 6pm. We were sharing a flat with Jamie & Phillappa from Peterborough as well as a couple of their friends, Jo & Heather. By the time we had chucked our stuff into our room and had a couple of welcome beers with our room mates it was time to go and report in at the Leisure Centre, whilst dawn went off to find her friends. The Do was slow to fill up at first but at least it gave me a chance to say hello to all the familiar faces. The first band on stage were Ryde. I had never heard of them before and despite a good effort i wasn't over impressed, but then again they were playing to a half empty room. The next band were The Pressure Tones who were better but again the room was not exactly packed. It seemed like everyone was staying in town until kicking out time and then making their way to the Leisure Centre, but it finally filled out. The usual V.F.M* DJ's were performing on the decks until it was time to throw everyone out.

....After a bit of a lie in on Saturday morning we ambled down towards town, stopping for one of 'Poppies' gorgeous carverys where we bumped into some of the ii who where on their way to the pub next door. Fully fed we then continued our walk down to the Spa for the Custom Show. This years displays were very impressive with some very nice scooters on show. This year has been fantastic for customised scooters, with plenty of new paint jobs on display. My personal favourite has to be the Trafalgar scooter that was on display at the I.O.W, but this had not made it to Bridlington so it gave others a chance to win a trophy. Fairground Attractions looked good complete with a turntable, but then again the whole Hull & District display was impressive. These guys certainly put a lot of effort & money into their scooters. My favourite though was the Vespa called Cry For Dawn. No, this wasn't because it was called Dawn, it was because of the paintwork and the accessories on it. it just stood out for me. Atlantic Gold also made a welcome reappearance, it has been a while since i last saw it.

....As i am no longer a member of the Burton Brewers SC, it seemed strange to not be spending Saturday afternoon at the B.S.R.A meeting upstairs in the Spa. The Brewers have a place at the meeting because of the size of their rally. Dawn and myself decided to put my free afternoon to good use and plonked ourselves in the Southcliffe and shared a few sherbets with the various Blues Sc members that were resident in there. We whiled away a good few hours in their before returning to our digs to get ready for Saturday night.

....Again i was doing my bit for V.F.M* and Dawn was working on the door. We arrived at the Spa to find they were already queuing outside so there was no chance of a slow build up tonight. The first band tonight were a band called Performance. It would be wrong of me to make an assessment of these guys on here as to be honest i can't remember much about them. The main band of the weekend then took to the stage. The Beat are an excellent band and always get a good reaction on the dance floor. The rest of the night was spent chatting to folks and taking pictures as well as carrying out my duties, although i think i possibly had a bit more Lucazade than i should have. Kicking out time soon arrived so we cleared the Spa of all the punters, including one guy who kept trying to sneak back in despite there being no-one left in.

....Despite the clocks going back an hour, the time to get up on Sunday morning arrived too soon. We backed all our gear up, lazed about with a cup of tea for a bit, then said our goodbyes to our now former roomies. We then wandered into town for a bite to eat and a little bit of shopping. After what was possibly the worst breakfast i've ever had we got caught out by the first rain fall of the weekend. Well, it wouldn't feel like a Bridlington weekend without getting soaked at some stage would it.

....Well that was the last National Scooter rally of 2005 with just Cala Gran left for us this year. The numbers were up again which just shows how healthy the scooter scene is at the moment. The only thing is that with larger numbers comes more problems, most of which we haven't seen for a while, like people going round robbing of parked up scooters. Matty from the Mansfield Monsters Sc had his SX 200 panels nicked of his scooter whilst it was parked outside his B&B. These were Red & White panels. Also another guy had his SX 150 Panels nicked of his parked up scooter. These where white with a blue flash. Any information on either of these thefts or any other thefts would be greatly welcomed. If these Scum can't afford the parts they shouldn't restore the scooters and leave it to those that work bloody hard to own their dream scooters. We can only hope they get what's coming to them.
